Categories

Crunch Time provides a default set of categories that you can use immediately to categorise your logged activity. You can update or add new categories by opening the Maintain Categories window by clicking on the Edit button when you select the process category grouping.

You add new categories by clicking on the add (add) button, and delete categories by clicking on the delete (delete) button.

For each category, you can enter a description. This is the description that's displayed in both the timeline view and the analysis view. You can also provide an image to represent that category. The recommended image size is 24 pixels by 24 pixels, and the supported formats are Windows bitmap (BMP) and Portable Network Graphics (PNG).

The Applications
window is where you define how processes are categorised. Let's say that presently, all internet browsing activity is uncategorised.

In the example above, Crunch Time does not know how to categorise activities performed by the Internet Explorer process (iexplore.exe). Let's say you want to categorise all internet browsing activity as 'Web browsing'. You can set up the category as follows, by clicking on the Edit
button:

The timeline view now categorises all processes started by Internet Explorer as 'Web browsing'.

Note that some of the browsing activity was spent on the Hotmail site. Let's say you want to categorise all activity on Hotmail to be 'Mail'. You can set up the new category as follows:

The first part of the entry is the process executable name, and the second part of the entry is a word to search in the window caption for. Note that you do not need to enter the entire caption. You just need to enter a word or phrase that is commonly displayed as the site's caption. The timeline view now splits the Internet Explorer activities into 'Web browsing' and 'Mail'.
