The SQL Size database

Data collected from the SQL Server instances are stored in a database. SQL Size can store the data in a SQL Server Compact Edition (SQL CE) database, or a SQL Server database.

· Storing the data in a SQL Server Compact Edition (SQL CE) database

A SQL CE database is easy to set up. However, it is limited in size to 4 GB, and additional configuration steps may be required to allow it to be accessbile from remote clients running the SQL Size GUI.

· Storing the data in a SQL Server database

If you already have a SQL Server instance with spare capacity, you can choose to store the data in a SQL Server database.

Permissions

You need to ensure that the account used to start the SQL Size Agent service has full access rights to the SQL CE database or the SQL Server database used to store the size statistics.

Database growth

You can specify how much historical data to store in the SQL Size database by defining the data retention settings using the SQL Size Configuration application.
