{"id":16,"date":"2017-04-04T09:15:08","date_gmt":"2017-04-04T09:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.yohz.com\/blogs\/?p=16"},"modified":"2017-04-04T09:15:08","modified_gmt":"2017-04-04T09:15:08","slug":"sql-blob-viewer-and-sql-image-viewer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yohz.com\/blogs\/2017\/04\/04\/sql-blob-viewer-and-sql-image-viewer\/","title":{"rendered":"SQL Blob Viewer and SQL Image Viewer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So we have 2 very similar products, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yohz.com\/sbv_details.htm\">SQL Blob Viewer<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yohz.com\/siv_details.htm\">SQL Image Viewer<\/a>, and here&#8217;s why.<\/p>\n<p>SQL Image Viewer was released 9 years ago, and over the years, it has accumulated a lot of code that is user-specific. \u00a0When we made the decision to create a 64-bit version of SQL Image Viewer, we discovered that it would be pointless to port those user-specific functions over too. \u00a0We did not want to leave our existing customers with a new version that did not have those functions, so we renamed the new product SQL Blob Viewer.<\/p>\n<p>SQL Blob Viewer has almost the same feature set as SQL Image Viewer. \u00a0The most obvious difference is how it displays images &#8211; it does this by displaying the images together with the textual data &#8211;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-46 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yohz.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/sbv_imagedisplay.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"748\" height=\"258\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.yohz.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/sbv_imagedisplay.png 748w, https:\/\/www.yohz.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/sbv_imagedisplay-300x103.png 300w, https:\/\/www.yohz.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/sbv_imagedisplay-150x52.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>while SQL Image Viewer displays images separate from the textual data (we&#8217;re still gathering feedback on whether users prefer the SQL Image Viewer way of displaying images).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-47 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yohz.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/siv_imagedisplay.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"749\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.yohz.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/siv_imagedisplay.png 749w, https:\/\/www.yohz.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/siv_imagedisplay-300x143.png 300w, https:\/\/www.yohz.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/siv_imagedisplay-150x71.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 749px) 100vw, 749px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>SQL Blob Viewer can also\u00a0embed images in exported Excel spreadsheets, has a user-friendlier interface to configure incremental exports, supports 64-bit versions of Access, and supports larger data sets with the 64-bit versions. \u00a0The plan is to improve on SQL Blob Viewer, while SQL Image Viewer will be updated only with bug fixes. \u00a0As both products were developed using different tools, it would be too much work to maintain 2 code bases.<\/p>\n<p>In the near future, probably when we&#8217;ve decided if we should support the same views as SQL Image Viewer, we will release SQL Blob Viewer as SQL Image Viewer (new), as the name SQL Image Viewer seems to attract more traffic (I suppose SQL Blob Viewer is just a tad too technical). \u00a0When that happens, you will still be able to install SQL Image Viewer (new) alongside SQL Image Viewer (old), so you can still use both versions concurrently. \u00a0Existing users with valid licenses can request for a SQL Image Viewer (new) license.<\/p>\n<p>I would encourage you to give SQL Blob Viewer a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yohz.com\/downloads\/sqlblobviewer\/SQLBlobViewerSetup.zip\">try<\/a> if you have not already done so, and let us know what you think. \u00a0If you&#8217;re a SQL Image Viewer user with a valid maintenance license, contact us at <a href=\"mailto:sales@yohz.com\">sales@yohz.com<\/a> for a SQL Blob Viewer license.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><div class=\"fcbkbttn_like \"><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/www.yohz.com\/blogs\/2017\/04\/04\/sql-blob-viewer-and-sql-image-viewer\/\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\" layout=\"button\"  size=\"small\"><\/fb:like><\/div><div class=\"fb-share-button  \" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.yohz.com\/blogs\/2017\/04\/04\/sql-blob-viewer-and-sql-image-viewer\/\" data-type=\"button\" data-size=\"small\"><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So we have 2 very similar products, SQL Blob Viewer and SQL Image Viewer, and here&#8217;s why.
