Let’s get started using Easy DICOM Search<\/a> to search for specific DICOM images.<\/p>\n

Selecting the folders to search in<\/h3>\n

2 ways to do this.<\/p>\n

1 – select the folders in the Explorer window on the left<\/p>\n

2 – enter the folders directly into the Folders<\/strong> listing<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Enter the file extensions<\/h3>\n

By default, Easy DICOM Search<\/a> will search for files with the dcm<\/strong> and dicom<\/strong> extensions in the search folders.\u00a0 You can add additional extensions if required.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Enter the search parameters<\/h3>\n

Let’s start with the basics – searching for text values.\u00a0 To search for all CT images, enter this:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

and press F5<\/strong> or click on the Search files (F5)<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

Image.Tag(‘0008,0060’)<\/strong><\/p>\n

tells Easy DICOM Search<\/a> to evaluate the modality tag value.<\/p>\n

= ‘CT’<\/strong><\/p>\n

tells Easy DICOM Search<\/a> to check if the value matches the value CT<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The expression is enclosed in brackets by convention.<\/p>\n

To search for images of multiple modalities, you have 2 options:<\/p>\n

1 – enter each condition on a separate line, using the OR<\/strong> parameter<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

2 – use the MATCH <\/b>operator<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

One difference between the two is that the equality search is case-sensitive, which the MATCH<\/strong> operator is case-insensitive.<\/p>\n

To search for multiple parameters, use the AND<\/strong> operator e.g.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In the above example, Easy DICOM Search<\/a> will return all CT and MR head and lung images.<\/p>\n

To search for partial text values, use the CONTAIN<\/strong>, STARTWITH<\/strong> and ENDWITH<\/strong> operators.\u00a0 All 3 operators are case-insentivie.<\/p>\n

For e.g. to search for all images where the institution name contains the word JIRA, enter the following:<\/p>\n

You can search for multiple values by separating each value with a comma e.g.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

To search for a phrase, enclose the phrase in double quotes e.g.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Easy DICOM Search<\/a> will return only images containing the phrase jira hospital<\/strong> or osirix<\/strong> in the Institution Name<\/strong> tag.<\/p>\n

Finding tag group and element values<\/h3>\n

Easy DICOM Search<\/a> has a tags reference function to help you search for each tag’s group and element values<\/p>\n

You can filter the tags by entering the complete or partial tag description.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

When you double-click on the tag item, the Tags Assist<\/strong> function helps you write your search parameters.\u00a0 For e.g. when we double-click on the Patient’s Weight<\/strong> tag, the following Tags Assist<\/strong> window is displayed.<\/p>\n

Say we want to search for patients whose weight is between 60 and 70.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Clicking OK then generates the following search parameter for us.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Note that the Tags Assist<\/strong> function must be active for this to work.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Working with your search results<\/h3>\n

Your search results are displayed in an Explorer-like window.\u00a0 The search parameter values are also displayed.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

You can add additional columns to the file listing to display other DICOM tag values by clicking on the Add columns to search results<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

You can export the file list to the clipboard or to a text file, or export the displayed file details, or export all or part of the DICOM tags for all the listed files to an Excel spreadsheet.\u00a0 See this topic<\/a> for more details.<\/p>\n

Persistent search history<\/h3>\n

Click on the View search history<\/strong> function to display details of all your previous searches.<\/p>\n

From the Search History<\/strong> window, you can choose to display the search results again, or perform the search again using the same parameters if you have added new files to search in.<\/p>\n
