Stemmed language databases |
Top Previous Next |
You can create stemmed language databases if you need to search for words of similar meaning. For example, in the English language, searching a stemmed English language database for knit will match knit, knits, knitted, and knitting.
Easy PDF Search uses the Snowball stemming, and supports the following languages:
•Armenian •Basque •Catalan •Danish •Dutch •English •Finnish •French •German •Greek •Hindi •Hungarian •Indonesian •Irish •Italian •Lithuanian •Nepali •Norwegian •Portuguese •Romanian •Russian •Serbian •Spanish •Swedish •Tamil •Turkish •Yiddish
You can test the language stemmers using the stemmer testing window described here.
Setting up a stemmed language database
Click on the Settings button in the Stemmer language sub-menu.
In the Stemmer Settings window, select the languages you want to create stemmed databases for. You can select up to a maximum of 5 languages.
Click on the Close button. In the Stemmer language sub-menu, you should see an option for the stemmed language(s) you selected.
Searching your stemmed language database
In the Stemmer language sub-menu, click on the stemmed language you want to search in.
An indicator will appear indicating that Easy PDF Search will be performing the search on the stemmed language database instead of the default database.
When you perform the search, an indicator will also appear in the search results window as a reminder that the search was performed on a stemmed language database.
To resume searching the default database, click on the (none) item in the Stemmer languages sub-menu.
