Working with multiple images

Instead of just displaying a single image in the image viewer, you can also display multiple images. Let’s get started. First, right-click in the file browser and select the Open image in new panel item. Now click on the images you want to open in the file browser. For each image that is opened, it will be displayed in a different tab in the image viewer. If we clicked on 3 images after selecting the Open image in new panel option, we will see 3 tabs. If you now look at the Tag viewer, you will see that the tag values for all 3 images are displayed.

Moving the images

To drag the image to a new location, click on the image tab, drag and drop it to the area you want to display the image in. Try arranging the images in different layouts. Here are some possibilities: You can also sync certain operations between all the opened images. Let’s start with 3 images in this side-by-side layout: Click on the Sync all windows button in any of the image windows. Now try zooming in or out of any of the image. You will find what the other images will use the same zoom level. Try turning on the magnifier mode. Again, you will find that the other images will also display the magnified layer. Try moving and resizing the magnified rectangle, or changing the magnification level. All images will display the magnified layer at the same position, size, and magnification. To stop the synchronization, click on the Sync all windows button again. We’ve seen how DICOM Search displays our search results in tabular and patient/study/series layouts. We’ve used the file browser to display single and multiple images in the image viewer, and also display and filter DICOM tag values using the Tag viewer. Next, we’ll learn how to export our files, images and tag values.

Section summary

When multiple images are selected, the image viewer displays each image in its own window. The tag viewer also displays the DICOM tag values for all the selected images.
